What the documents mean for you
JMP complies with law enforcement requests from Canada and British Columbia, keeps message content up to 7 days, MMS and voicemail 30 days after last access, and call records for billing. It bans automated or business use. Its code is open source.
Nothing in the FAQ or the Privacy & Transparency Statement mentions identity verification, KYC, proof of address or source-of-funds checks. Signup asks only how you want to pay (including a referral code), and the only compelled-disclosure clause concerns handing existing data to law enforcement, which is data sharing rather than an identity check demanded of you.
Warnings
JMP states that the phone network encrypts neither metadata nor content, and that your data passes through many phone companies outside its control, including your recipient's carrier. Encryption only covers the leg between you and JMP's servers.
Text metadata and content can be held for 7 days, MMS media and voicemail recordings for 30 days after last access, and call metadata is kept for billing until you ask support to remove it.
All JMP servers are in Canada and staff live in Canada or the USA, so Canadian federal and British Columbia authorities can compel disclosure of what JMP holds.
JMP does not host your Jabber account and has no control over that server. It recommends server-side message archiving, which means another operator may hold copies of your messages under its own policy.
