Accounts

An account is optional. It holds a generated username and the hash of a login key, and no email address, so a lost key cannot be recovered.

• Display name and website: unlocked with karma, and set under Edit profile.
• Verified account: prove you control a domain with a DNS record, on your account page.
• Claiming a service: prove you work for a listed service with a DNS record on its domain. Your reviews of it are then marked as an insider’s and their rating counts for nothing.

Deleting an account removes it, its login key, its karma and its API keys at once. Reviews, replies and suggestions it posted stay, no longer attributed to anyone.

Push notifications, where the site has them turned on, are set per browser on your notifications page. Your browser maker’s push service can see that a message arrived, though not what it says.
